AusLUG

The EXCITEMENT IS BUILDING!
AusLUG 2012 is now JUST 40 days away, and the AusLUG organising committee have added two more ROCK STARS to our already STELLAR speaking cast.

Gabriella Davis, Administrator of renown and repute, and Declan Lynch, the Developer who gave everyone their start in XPages are coming to AusLUG 2012!

We're exstatic to announce that Gabriella will be joining Chris Miller to present this year's Admin Jump-start session, which means Administrators will have the rare opportunity to learn from the best in a two day immersion of all things Notes and Domino.  Details below...

Joining Ed Brill from IBM is Ted Stanton, World Wide Executive Consultant for IBM's Software Solutions Group.  Ted will be delivering key sessions direct from Lotusphere ... see, we really ARE bringing Lotusphere to YOU!

We've also been able to negotiate some outstanding corporate rates for accommodation if you need somewhere to stay, again - details below...

AusLUG 2012 is shaping up to be the BIGGEST IBM software event held in Australia for a decade (even eclipsing our first AusLUG), in fact, we have attendees registered from as far away as Afghanistan!

If you haven't already registered (or used the links above to confirm you are attending) YOU NEED TO MOVE FAST!

ALTHOUGH THE EVENT IS JUST OVER 6 WEEKS AWAY WE ARE ALREADY 1/2 FULL!!

The AusLUG Organising Committee are pumped about this event, and it's not just due to the buzz we brought back from Lotusphere, AusLUG 2012 WILL be HUGE!

Dont miss it!

Announcing the Admin Blast Jump-Start!
Domino Security, Tuning, Integration and Performance, with Gabriella Davis and Chris Miller

AUSLUG is pleased to bring to Melbourne a new 2 day in-depth technical seminar aimed at Domino administrators. Presented by noted speakers and IBM Champions Gabriella Davis and Chris Miller, the AUSLUG Administration Jumpstart will cover the latest approaches to security, id management, performance tuning, single sign on, directory integration and more. Often as a Domino Admin, you're asked to do more with less. During this jumpstart, you'll learn important techniques and problem solving skills that will help you get the most from your systems. If you need to learn how to configure ID Vault or DAOS, how to secure your servers against SMTP exploits, how to plan and complete a server upgrade or how to use Active Directory for all your passwords, how to tune your network, server settings, polices and disk. All of that will be covered over the 2 days and much more.

Launch your AusLUG with the Admin Jump-Start on Thuesday the 27th and Wednesday the 28th of March and attend our deep dive session in Adminstration:

Investment is only $990(ex) per person.

Simply Log into the site, Choose 'My Profile' (top right) and then 'Add Jump Start' to register!

AusLUG

One week to go!
We are nearly there, just one more week until AusLUG 2011.  Just when you thought our agenda was full, we continue to add items to the schedule such as: Nerd Girls, The AusLUG Kimono's experience, and more!  Of course, there are going to be a few surprises saved for the conference!

We are nearly full
Our venue has a maximum capacity and we are very close to reaching that.  If you know someone who should register, and they HAVEN'T, now is the time to be a great Aussie Mate and let them know.  We will be closing registrations at 5:00pm on Tuesday (that's tomorrow!) but we can still squeeze a few more in.

Unique Sessions
This week in Lotus will be live on Tuesday (a nice 4:00am start for host Stuart McIntyre) and we will have our Nerd Girls panel on Monday.  We have our Social evening on Monday, and we have found a place to host the AusLUG Kimono's experience (see, we ARE bringing Lotusphere to you!) for those that want to share their vocal capabilities, or just continue socialising with your peers after the official Monday evening Social event.

See you next Monday
Our registration desk will be open from 8:00am on Monday, we look forward to seeing you all then.  Our opening keynote will be at 9:00am with Ed Brill and other guests.

Don't forget that we have an earlier start at 8:30am for the first sessions on Tuesday, so that we can fit everything in.

To keep up to date, follow @AusLUG on Twitter and the AusLUG web site.  If using Twitter, please use the #AusLUG hashtag.

See you all on August 29th!

AusLUG Update 15th August - Phone a Friend, Labs, The Agenda and more...

Auslug  August 15 2011 12:09:20 PM
AusLUG

AusLUG Update - 15th August, 2011
We are now only 2 weeks away from the BIGGEST IBM/Lotus event in Australia!

There are still places left - Phone a Friend!
For this very first AusLUG we have set ourselves some pretty challenging goals, including packing out our venue. This is where you can help
It's time to “phone a friend”

We have done a lot of promotion but we know not everyone has heard of AusLUG, so can you take five minutes and contact someone you know, encourage them to register and come along.

We are close to capacity but there is always room for more!

Check out the Agenda!
Over the weekend we published the full agenda for AusLUG 2011. All of the sessions have now been finalised and we are looking forward to bringing you 2 fantastic days of sessions and events.

The agenda is available here:

http://www.auslug.org/webs/auslug2011.nsf/agendas.xsp

Not only will you see all of the sessions and their schedule, you can even download an ICS file to automatically add the entire agenda to your calendar!

We have Labs!
IBM, our platinum sponsor, will be running a Lab where you can see live demos from across the IBM Software Portfolio, allowing you to explore them with direct access to people who can answer your questions. This will be a great way to find out more after attending a session and we thank IBM for making these Labs possible

Featured Session: 'The Race for the Mobile Enterprise' with Peter Carr of analyst firm Longhaus
With the days of the flagship desktop service now gone forever many CIOs have struggled to move on. The very crux of the old-world desktop model was email. Its religious-style debates shaped enterprise thinking and product selection since the turn of the century.

But today many organisations are unwittingly using old-world debates to make new-world decisions about core enterprise strategy based on email provider churn. But email is now just one part in an extended collaborative continuum and businesses are realising all too late that “next generation collaboration” nirvana is unachievable by simply changing email platforms. Today the journey for true enterprise-collaboration begins with an underlying network capability leading to three (3) core strategic paths:

  • The IP Communication Strategic Path;
  • The IP Telephony Strategic Path;
  • and The IP Collaboration Strategic Path.
In this presentation, Longhaus will unpack each phase of the new collaboration continuum to expose the weaknesses and roadblocks presented by a messaging-centric strategy. Using Australian data and market examples from both 2001 and 2011 Longhaus will discuss achievable end-games depending on the specific technology decisions being made. The presentation will outline how enterprises must undertake business value assessments of the underlying technology platforms for either IP-Communications or IP-Collaboration approaches which typically split enterprise decision makers and leave the ICT organisation with budgets for legacy email-focused procurement rather than long-term vision.

Are you still coming?
We really look forward to seeing you at AusLUG 2011, but if you are not coming would you mind logging into your profile on the web-site and cancelling your registration. We want as many people as possible to attend the conference and places are limited.

There is still more to come
We have a few more things coming, and we'll let you know about them as we get closer. But like all good events, we will have some surprises!

To keep update to date, follow @auslug in Twitter and the AusLUG website. If using Twitter, please use the #AusLUG hashtag.

See you all on August 29!

’Meet. Share. Learn.’ The Australian IBM/Lotus Community comes together for a major event.

Auslug  August 8 2011 02:40:49 PM
"Meet. Share. Learn." The Australian IBM/Lotus Community comes together for a major event.

The Australian Lotus User Group (AusLUG) organising committee today announced the details for their upcoming AusLUG 2011 conference. AusLUG's President, Mat Newman, said: "The committee is pleased to announce that the biggest IBM/Lotus event for over a decade in Australia will be held in Sydney on August 29th and 30th this year".

"We have secured some of the biggest names in the IBM/Lotus community from IBM, Business Partners and Customers to speak at the conference. Our aim is to bring some of the magic from Lotusphere - the huge annual IBM conference held in Orlando, Florida - to an Australian audience." Newman was keen to point out that this was not a marketing event, "As you look through the Agenda, Sessions and Speakers, you will see that this is a event with a heavy business focus, aligned to the needs of Australian businesses. Developers and Administrators are well catered for with informative sessions, while IT managers and CIO's will be able to gain hard evidence to support their decision making processes with regard to the planning, implementation and utilising the IBM collaboration solutions software portfolio. There is something on the agenda for everyone involved with, interested in, or requiring a better understanding of IBM software."

"Sessions not only cover the familiar Lotus software suite, but also include details on implementing and using technologies that are trending industry buzz words: Social, Mobile and Cloud. IBM solutions in these areas are cutting edge, and IBM is the acknowledged market leader in the business Social segment with IBM Connections." Newman said, he continued: "the sessions we have on our agenda will help IT decision makers not only understand the impact these technologies can have on their business - from those who are already using them - but also how to empower their staff and customers with real solutions that are ready for business".

In addition we will be delivering some key training tack-ons that will allow the Australian community to get hands on training from leaders in the field, at a small cost.
Thanks to the generous support of our sponsors, AusLUG will be free for registered attendees.

AusLUG will re-enforce IBMs' premier status on the business social scene and will re-invigorate and re-assure existing Lotus users that this is a product range with an exciting future.
